This tour doesn’t only take you through the wonders of this majestic garden. For all those football aficionados, get ready to also discover the Mario Filho Stadium, a true landmark in Rio the Janeiro’s sport culture.

Begin your tour by making your way to the Jardim Botanico. This garden was created in the 19th century and has been adding specimens to its blooming collection ever since. Not only does it contain the largest collection of plants in the world; it’s also the most beautiful. The garden contains almost 8.000 different species, among which can be counted 300 different kinds of palm trees.

As you meander through the premises, you won’t only be captivated by the flora. Little monkeys can be seen fooling around the garden and a large mix of birds flutter and twitter around your head. The playful animals like to gather round the Greek statues and fountains that dot the green with stony white. The tour takes you through the park’s rich history with a visit to the former Gunpowder Factory and the Solar da Imperatriz, a magnificent building which houses the National Tropical Botanic School.

Later on, it’s time to visit the Mario Filho Stadium, aka Maracana. Enjoy a view of the field and the grandstands and visit the Fame sidewalk and the highly interesting Soccer Exhibition. Plants and sports guarantee a day brimming with Brazilian heritage.
