Discover a new country, a new culture and a new city in less than an hour with this full day trip to Slovakia’s capital Bratislava. Enjoy a walking tour through its historic streets and then explore the city at your own pace after lunch. This picturesque city is one of Europe’s few remaining hidden gems.
Bratislava’s position in the heart of Europe has made it a melting pot of cultures and the city boasts many Hungarian and Austrian features as well as Slovakian. Discover the picturesque old town and see some of the architectural marvels that dot the medieval core. See the grandiose Primate’s Palace, a fairytale building painted in pink and white that is considered the most beautiful palace in the city. Admire the neo-Renaissance elegance of the Slovak National Theatre, which was designed in the late 19th century by Fellner & Helmer, the top opera house architects of the era. Check out the recently restored castle and enjoy stunning panoramic views over the Danube and Old Town.
In fact, the whole of the centre is so picture postcard pretty that you will be hard pressed to decide which building you like the most. Perhaps it will be the Renaissance-style Town Hall or the art nouveau blue Church of St Elizabeth, or maybe even the gloriously gothic St Martin’s Cathedral. Break for a tasty lunch to recharge the batteries for an afternoon stroll in the busy area around St Michael’s Street and take a photo or two of the medieval St Michael’s Gate.
