Day One: Must be weekdays.
Coach to meet group at Wagga Wagga, Flight QF 2221 09.37 hrs weekdays, depart for Leeton.
11.15 Hrs
Arrive at Yanco Institute, welcome by senior staff, book into Motel before Lunch.
12.00 hrs
Lunch at Yanco Institute, Or Chinese if Preferred.
13.00 hrs
Lecture by Australian Agronomists on rice production in Australia, These Agronomists have been responsible for creating a program named Ricecheck, this program has been responsible for lifting Australia’s rice yields by 30% to 35% over the last 20 years. There will be Interpreters present to make sure the group understands how this program works.
They will lecture with samples of rice varieties grown in Australia, their limiting factors, (cold and water or disease and/or pests and soil types)
1500 hrs
Afternoon Tea Break, Travel to Rice farm to demonstrate Ricecheck program.
Illustrated Lecture on typical rice farm size, operations in the Riverina.
Or a walking visit to rice research plots and or laboratories in Company of scientists or Technical Officers.
18.30 hrs
Coach will take Group to the Leeton RSl Club for dinner, Australian Cuisine (Chinese food can be arranged for Chinese students)
Return to Motel Accommodation at Yanco Institute, this accommodation can accept groups of up to 30 in twin/share 3 Star Motel Rooms.
Groups in excess of 30 people can also be accommodated in Leeton which is only a ten minute drive from the Institute.
DAY TWO: Must be weekday.
Groups help themselves to breakfast in their Rooms,
09.00 hrs
Lecture on Rice farming, this to be conducted by Mr John Lacey or his assistants, Mr Lacey was the co-coordinator of the Ricecheck program and is a qualified Agricultural Agronomist.
The lecture can be translated into Japanese and Chinese with translators on hand at the Institute.
11.00 hrs
Morning Tea Break.
12.00 hrs
Lunch at the Institute,.
This can either be Australian or Chinese Cuisine.
13.30 hrs
A visit to Mr Barry and Gillian Kirkups 200 hectare rice farm at Gogeldrie, a walk and talk tour with Mr Kirkup around this property.
16.00 hrs
Visit Machinery Shed to clamber over large machinery used in rice production in Australia.
18.00 hrs
Arrive back at the Institute.
18.30 hrs
Coach will take Group to the Leeton RSL Club for dinner, Australian Cuisine (Chinese food can be arranged for Chinese Groups)
Return to MotelAccommodation at Yanco Institute.
DAY THREE Must be weekday.
Group help themselves to breakfast in their Rooms.
09.00 hrs
1 hour lecture on the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area,
Morning tea.
Depart for a visit to Gogeldrie Weir,
12.00 hrs
Lunch at the Institute, This can either be Australian or Chinese Cuisine.
13.00 hrs
Visit to an area with both Flood and pressurized irrigation systems followed by a visit to RAMSAR listed wetlands at Fivebough Swamp.
17.30 hrs
Farewell and Certificate of Completion of Course Certificates presented to Group.
18.30 hrs
Coach will take group to the Leeton RSL Club for dinner, Australian Cuisine (Chinese food can be arranged for Chinese students)
Return to Accommodation at Yanco Institute, this accommodation can accept groups of 50 or more.
Support staff to stay at the Institute Motel or in close by Leeton Motel.
Day Four:
After Breakfast the group will be taken to Wagga departing at 09.57 Flight QF 2222 for Sydney.
AdditionalThis 3 day course will also include lectures on Irrigation systems as well as Vegetables, Beef Cattle and Grape growing as well as Citrus fruit production.
