Take a small-group day trip from Sydney to tour the beautiful Hunter Valley and sample the region's delicious wines, cheeses and chocolate. You'll visit artisanal small-production wineries, hand-feed native animals at an Australian wildlife park and enjoy a gourmet lunch at a vineyard restaurant (if option selected). Tour numbers are limited to 16 passengers on this small-group tour to the Hunter Valley, for a more personalized experience.
After being picked up from your Sydney hotel, your small-group tour heads out of the city to visit an Australian wildlife park. You'll arrive before the crowds so you can enjoy an up-close wildlife encounter. Hand-feed the freely roaming wallabies, kangaroos and emus at the park, home to creatures great and small, slippery and scaly, fluffy and furry. You might even meet a koala!
Morning tea and coffee is served at the wildlife park as you meet and greet the animals.
Leaving the park, your small-group tour takes you along the Freeway to The Hunter Valley, which is nestled in the lee of The Great Dividing Range.
First stop of the day is at the Hunter Valley Smelly Cheese Shop, ample some of the region's dairy produce at the interestingly named
Smelly Cheese Shop. The cheeses include soft brie and crumbly cheddar,
blue d'Affinois and Stilton.
Your next stop is the first of the three winery visits of the day. With more than 120 wineries, the Hunter Valley produces excellent wines, loved both locally and abroad. Today you will visit three of the Hunter Valley's boutique, artisanal wineries, whose focus is on smaller production, hard-to-source wines. Sample the local vintages and learn how to tell the difference between chardonnay and a pinot noir, and enjoy a gourmet lunch with wine pairings at a vineyard restaurant if you choose the lunch option.
On the drive back to Sydney, stop off at the Hunter Valley Gardens in Pokolbin and admire the array of roses and other flowers, then pay a visit to the Hunter Valley Chocolate Shop. Enjoy a tasting of delicious chocolates, with flavors including fiery chilli bark and dark rocky road, before relaxing on the return drive to Sydney.
