Punta Tombo Excursion

This unique Punta Tombo day tour is a great opportunity to watch the behavior of penguins in an up-close and personal way. 

The excursion will set out early in the morning to head for the penguin colony at the Punta Tombo Provincial reserve. There you will discover a penguin colony covering 2.5km of clay and sand land that is home to over 500,000 penguins and thousands of nests where the Magellanic penguins lay their eggs and raise their chicks. 

During this essential ecological tour in Puerto Madryn you’ll follow your tour guide along 2,000 meters of pathways through the Punta Tombo nature reserve to have a closer observation of the magellanic penguins and how they coexist with other beautiful species; such as sea gulls, skuas, giant petrels, cormorants, gunacoes, maras and pichis. 

Before concluding this tour by travelling through the provincial capital Rawson, you can choose among the following options: 

Option 1: The Punta Tombo tour route will continue to the Port of Rawson, where you’ll board a semi rigid boat that will sail on the tranquil waters to find toninas dolphins. On this watching experience you'll be able to get close to the dolphins as they approach the boat to play tricks on the waves.

Option 2: The Punta Tombo tour will follow to the Low Valley of Chubut River, where you will explore other Welsh colony towns, taste the typical Welsh tea and have the opportunity to visit the fascinating Egidio Feruglio Paleontological Museum in Trelew.

— This Punta Tombo tour is available throughout the year, but penguins can only be seen from September until March. 
— It is recommended to wear warm waterproof clothes and multiple layers to protect you from the Patagonian coastal winds you may experience during this tour.
